Northern Uganda Christian Charity attempts to bridge the gap created between youth  by providing high quality education for life sustainability at no cost to those in need.

Every computer refurbished is thoroughly cleaned, tested, repaired and all data contained securely erased or physically destroyed. For eligible recipients Microsoft Windows and Office software is installed.

These computers are then given, at no cost, to both individuals from low income families and other organisations such as schools, orphanages, hospitals, vocational training centers and other non-profit organisations.

NORTHERN UGANDA CHRISTIAN CHARITY
is a Christian based and non profit making organization that works with all categories of people to focus on human welfare, Spiritual maturity, educational maturity, Home management and Business maturity, NUCC is specialized in mentoring young generation for future development.

NUCC was formed in 2009 with a theme of supporting unsupported group and to reach hard to reach community with an intention of expanding the sustainable knowledge based in skills and knowledge for life sustainability.

Background of this idea

Northern Uganda Christian Charity  is a grass root community organization dedicated to improving the health, educational attainment, human welfare, and opportunities for youth, adults and families in Northern Uganda.

The Organization is designed to address the need for Education and Health in a severely impoverished rural community of Northern Uganda. This project was identified as essential by Ambrose Omara who happens to be a born of this area.

The areas of intervention of this project are located in Lira District, on the outskirts of Lira Sub County, Anai Ober Village. People living in these areas are in condition of extreme poverty and consequently they have no possibility to afford the costs of basic needs, such as shelter, education, healthcare and food.

The majority of the families have an average number of six children per household and they struggle to survive by doing odd jobs. Therefore, all the family incomes are basically oriented to first needs and in most cases they cannot afford the cost of school fees for the children. In the case of a family that can afford the cost of the school fees, most of them don’t have money to purchase school materials, as exercise books and texts. As a result most of these poor families choose very simple and poor but affordable schools for their children. Children from poor families attend schools that have no libraries or opportunities for research. Yet these very children are examined together with the rest of the better off children who have access to good schools with all the necessary facilities. The extreme consequence of this is that the children that are in need of a scholarship to continue their studies, are the ones without possibilities to obtain it. The opposite is true, that it is the well off children who after attending very good schools perform better and are eligible for free higher education at university level.

For the children from these poor families who succeed to be in school, continuing with the education is still a big challenge this is because many of them drop out (stop) due to other reasons such as family needs. For example many girls stop going to school in order to take care of the sick parent at home or boys to do some work to support the home. By the time such a child is free to go back to school it is no longer possible to continue with the regular schools. The only options are entrepreneurs and vocational skills training. However the cost of entrepreneurs and vocational skills training, that could be considered as a middle solution between work and school, are still beyond the means of many poor families living in these  village areas.

Illiteracy have negative consequences on the whole family, for the reason that a parent that hasn’t received an education, is not able to get a good job and is not able to pay the school fees for his children. Unfortunately the same parent cares very little about the size of his family thereby creating a vicious circle of poor families transmitted from generation to generation.

Through increasing quality and access to affordable education for poor children, and skills training for poor youth and women, this project aims to give a concrete possibility of social and economic empowerment to the adults of tomorrow and to all their families. Therefore, in this project we request you to support us for entrepreneurs, vocational skills training by providing tools and equipments for vocational programs such as Block Laying and Concrete Practice, Tailoring and Garment Cutting, Carpentry and Joinery, Motor Vehicle Technology, Beauty and Salon, Upholstery, Welding and Metal, Fabrication and the construction of the dorms for both boys and girls. Computer Training & maintenance,

Noteworthy Facts

Northern Uganda Christian Charity is located in Lira Sub-county, Lira District, In Lango Sub-Region- Uganda. From the whole population of the zone 92% live in rural areas engaged in agricultural activities, which is the dominant activity. This area is recurrently hit by food deficit mainly because of population pressure, erratic nature of rainfall; land shortage, backward agricultural technology (lack of modern agricultural implements and input) and so on. Regarding social services coverage this zone is backward. The primary enrolment ratio doesn't exceed 70% while that of secondary education is 2%, nearly 95% of the population are illiterate in the village. The health coverage of this zone is about 10% while only 19% of zonal population gets clean drinking water.

Anai Ober is very remote and with numerous socioeconomic problems such as poverty, poor infrastructure, unemployment, poor social services and social ills. These make the village to be incompatible with the growing population that is hungry for these services. Young population is becoming dominant population group in the village. This group is also the most affected group of society by the above stated socio –economic constraints. Because of this there is horrible poverty in rural Lira that forces the young to migrate to urban centre especially   Lira town, Kole, Kampala and other towns.
